“On a scale of one to ten our trip was a twenty plus!” Adele Hendricks Rancho Santa Fe 2010
G’day Mates,
May 2010! A time of great celebration! Not only is Spring in the Michigan air it is also a time for personal celebration. Twenty eight years ago on May 1st 1982 my husband and I arrived in Detroit to commence a two year temporary work assignment that was destined to become a lifestyle change. Ten years later on May 1st 1992 Australia 2000 Travel was born. On May 1st 2004 the ownership of Australia New Zealand Down Under Travel was passed to our loving hands. Eighteen fabulous years have been spent exploring the glorious South Pacific and parts of South East Asia. Remarkable stories have been gathered. Wonderful friendships and business relationships with hoteliers, inn keepers and private guides have been nurtured. Off the beaten track adventures have been discovered. Mountain ranges, glaciers and live volcanoes have been climbed. Harbors, rivers and oceans have been sailed. Fine Aussie and Kiwi wines have been sampled at our wineries and in our restaurants. Exciting galleries have been visited. Horses and camels have been ridden. Brightly colored tropical fish, eels and reef sharks have shared their space in barrier reefs as has an elephant in the South China Sea. Those wonderful adventures have enabled us to create an untold number of BRILLIANT itineraries for you, our enthusiastic travelers.
May I take this moment to thank you for honoring us with the privilege to help you, your friends and colleagues realize the dream of discovering the magic of the exquisite South Pacific.
Spring is in the Air!!! Weddings and Honeymoons are just around the corner! Gifts are to be purchased! Statistics show that couples are delaying their marriages until they have established a career and created a degree of order in their lives. As a result they have purchased their dinner plates, wine glasses and flower vases. To give more of the same is hardly exciting. To help guests solve the problem of what to give the Lucky Couple Who Has Everything Australia 2000 Travel has come to your rescue! We have designed our Honeymoon Registry as a means of helping build breathtaking memories that will live long after the dinner plate has been dropped and broken or the style of the flower vase has become unfashionable. Guests are able to make a financial contribution to the bridal couple’s Honeymoon Registry and in so doing help fulfill dreams for a romantic honeymoon or wedding in Australia, New Zealand, Tahiti, Fiji, Bali, Thailand or Vietnam.

Travelers to Fiji have long wished for a sanctuary near Nadi to relax and refresh before or after a trip to their remote Fijian island paradise. Created by our friends, Jenny and Peter Bourke, owners of beautiful Nukubati Island Resort, Fiji Orchid with its six very private and exclusive villas is such a place. Set in a stunning tropical environment in the foothills of the volcanic Nausori Highlands and close to Saweni Beach Fiji Orchid is surrounded by five acres of tropical gardens that showcase an extraordinary variety of magnificent orchids once lovingly tended by the late Raymond Burr of Ironsides and Perry Mason fame. Fiji Orchid has been designed for people with just a few days in which to absorb the Fijian magic and to become part of the extended Nukubati Family.
Maria Island Walk A Nature Enthusiasts Destination. A four day, three night guided hike on remote Maria Island has been likened to a sumptuous four day dinner party interspersed with gentle walks through exquisite bush. In November 2009 my heart was filled to bursting when after an hour’s drive from Hobart, Tasmania followed by a brief boat journey I stepped onto tiny Maria Island, once a penal colony that had housed convicts shipped from England in the 1800s. During four magical days our energetic, engaging, knowledgeable guides, both named Ben, led our group of seven – three Aussies, two English, one Canadian and one Australian American to discover the beautiful Aussie bush, beaches and wildlife. From fascinating fossil cliffs, spectacular coastal scenery, to Aussie creatures hopping, tree climbing, burrowing or swimming in their natural habitat we marveled it all. Sated by the beauty of each day we’d gather at dusk to share superb Aussie wine as we watched the sunset and awaited the luscious dinner party prepared for us by the two Bens. How soundly we slept on camp beds at permanent campsites. Awakened each morning by the dawn chorus, a cacophony of birdsong and the aroma of fresh plunger coffee we wondered when camping had ever been so luxurious, so eco friendly or had filled our every sense. Please do not imagine that when Ian Johnstone designed his multi award winning walk he created it for wimps. Where, as much of the walking caters to those of average fitness on the third day the fitter ones among the group are given the opportunity to climb one of two smallish mountains. As Young Ben’s oldest walker to have climbed to the top of one of those mountains, Bishop and Clerk I encourage potential hikers to build your stamina and aerobic capacity that you too, might revel in the thrill of standing on the top of a cliff 2,000 feet above sea level while watching whales cavort in the sea below. Maria Island Walk is a BRILLIANT means of discovering the Aussie bush, wildlife, cuisine and colonial history. It’s a FABULOUS way to meet the locals. I encourage you to have us include this piece of magic in your next itinerary. In some small way a walk on Maria Island will change your life. You can include a stop in Tasmania as part of the Tasmania Aussie Airpass priced from $898.00.

Overcoming Jetlag Wave Goodbye to Sleepless Nights and the Rest is Easy! Concerns about the debilitating effects of jetlag have long been a topic of conversation among our clients. To our collective joy we have recently discovered NightWave, a tiny, non-invasive sleep device that makes the problem of dealing with jetlag a thing of the past. A gentle blue light pulses on the ceiling for seven minutes and ensures the traveler will fall into a deep restful sleep. Much as NightWave will not keep people asleep slumber will return once the light is reactivated. Not only have I found Night Wave effective in helping me adjust to the time zone changes when traveling to the South Pacific, Europe and within USA I have found it effective in re-adjusting to the local time zone on my return to The States. NightWave is available for purchase on-line. By using code FOCKH2O you’ll receive a 20% discount. http://www.australia2000travel.com/content/Resources/overcoming_jetlag.asp
